Every nation had its own distinct society and unique civilization. In some places, Persian culture and legal governance prevailed; in others, the influence of Roman civilization and law was dominant, while elsewhere, the mingling of non-Arabs created an unusual struggle for existence. Each had its own new and diverse needs, and many emerging issues demanded solutions within the framework of Islamic civilization. Yet, all these challenges were gradually resolved through the power of ijtihad (independent juristic reasoning) and the continuous efforts of the jurists. Thus, Islam continued to thrive and endure in every era. Ijtihad is the process of aligning life with the demands of time and circumstance. This is precisely why it is no easy task. Throughout history, jurists and scholars of Islamic law have embraced this responsibility, not only resolving people's religious and legal dilemmas but also ensuring the sustained progress and permanence of Islam.
