The interpretive methodology of Imam Abdul Rahman bin Ali bin Muhammad Ibn al-Jawzi in his tafseer Zad al-Masir presents a unique scholarly approach to the preference of various opinions and the usage of terms of preference. This study focuses on method of Imam Ibn al-Jawzi, how he prioritizes one opinion over others and the terms used in this process. In his tafseer, Imam Ibn al-Jawzi employs terms of preference such as "more authentic," "more preferable," "more deserving," "better," "more beloved," "better," and "more apparent" to give priority to specific opinions, which highlights his intellectual and inferential stance. Additionally, he utilizes phrases like "our choice," "the choice," and "and the choice according to me" to express his preferential views. An essential aspect of his methodology is the rejection of certain opinions by labeling them as weak or invalid, such as terms like "and this is an error," and "and this opinion is not acceptable," indicating his preference through these evaluations. This research examines the various applications of these terms of preference in Imam Ibn al-Jawzi's tafseer to better understand his interpretive style and scholarly insight.
